A New Departure

A quiet chapter of love and longing unfolds as Natacha travels from Fujiyoshida to London — capturing beauty, distance, and the heartbeat that connects two souls across the world.

After weeks of work in Fujiyoshida, Daisy, Venice, and Patrick stood at the airport to see their beloved friend and colleague off. Natacha was about to leave Japan for a photography assignment in London that would last one month — a journey both exciting and bittersweet.

Before boarding her flight, she joined their group chat.

Natacha video calls her friends Daisy, Venice, and Patrick at Narita Airport before boarding her flight to London, smiling warmly under the morning light.

At Narita Airport, Natacha greets Daisy, Venice, and Patrick through a video call before her departure to London. Her smile reflects both excitement and the gentle ache of saying goodbye.

“I’m boarding now! Take care, everyone,” Natacha said.
“Safe travels, Nat! Don’t forget to send us pictures,” Daisy replied.
“Work hard, but don’t forget to rest, okay?” Venice teased.
Patrick smiled gently, adding, “Take care, my love. Call me anytime. I’ll always be right here.”

Her heart trembled at his words.
Though she smiled, her eyes shimmered with tears. As she walked toward the gate, she whispered to herself,

Before her flight to London, Natacha pauses at the departure gate — the sunlight catches her scarf as she smiles softly, feeling both calm and hopeful for the journey ahead.

Natasha stands quietly at Narita Airport, watching planes prepare for departure under the soft golden light of dawn — a moment before her journey to London begins.

“No matter how far the distance, our hearts will always meet halfway.”

Above the Clouds

The plane lifted through the morning sky of Tokyo Narita.
Outside the window, the rising sun painted the clouds in shades of gold and rose.
Around her, passengers of many nationalities sat quietly — each carrying their own stories, destinations, and reasons for travel.
For Natacha, this flight symbolized not only a new assignment, but a new chapter of courage, love, and independence.

Arrival in London

She flew with British Airways Flight BA6, departing Tokyo at 8:00 a.m. and landing at Heathrow around 4:00 p.m. local time, after a twelve-hour journey.
The time difference between Japan and the UK — eight hours — made it feel like a day had folded in two.

Arrival at Heathrow — Natasha lands in London with a heart full of dreams, ready to begin her month-long journey of work and discovery.

Before leaving the terminal, she messaged the group chat:

“I’ve arrived safely in London! I’ll send you photos soon. Take care, everyone. Love you all — Natacha.”

Then she texted Patrick privately:

“I’m here, my love. It’s freezing, but beautiful. The sky feels endless — though it would be warmer if you were here to hold me. I’m hugging the white kimono you gave me — it keeps me close to you.”

Patrick, still at work in Japan, read the message and immediately called her.
Their voices met across time zones — soft, laughing, a bit tearful.

“You made it! Have you checked in yet? Remember to drink warm tea and get some rest,” he said.
“Just landed,” she replied smiling, “waiting for my luggage. I’ll message when I reach the hotel. Don’t forget your next lung check in six months, okay?”

By the time she hung up, her heart felt lighter than the London sky.

The First Glimpse of London

A black car from her company waited outside.
Through the window, she watched the city unfold — row houses in Victorian style, bridges arched over the Thames, autumn leaves spiraling in the wind.
Each building seemed to breathe its own story.

Natacha sits inside a car in London, gazing out through the window at golden evening light reflecting off elegant European buildings. The scene glows softly with a cinematic warmth, capturing her calm and hopeful mood.

“Every journey begins with a quiet courage within.” — Natacha’s first evening in London, where the city lights whisper new beginnings.

“Every city has its soul,” she murmured, and took a photo to send to Daisy, knowing her architect friend would love the details.

Her temporary home was a private penthouse suite in Canary Wharf, a place popular among expatriate executives for its security and serenity.
Exhausted from the long journey, she unpacked and soon fell asleep to the murmur of the city below.

A New Morning

Sunlight slipped through the curtains.
Natacha stretched and stepped onto the balcony overlooking the River Thames. The morning light glowed softly across the water.
She snapped a few photos — her first morning in London.

Morning sunlight fills Natacha’s glass-walled apartment overlooking the River Thames as she enjoys a quiet cup of tea on the balcony.

Bathed in gentle morning light, Natacha sips her tea on the balcony — a serene moment above the Thames, before the city awakens.

“Good morning from England,” she texted Patrick.
“It must be night in Japan now. The air is cold but sweet. Your tea recipe worked — ginger and peach keep me warm.”

While she watched the sunlight sparkle on the river, her friends in Fujiyoshida were sleeping peacefully. Patrick’s breathing was steady now — his lungs healed, his mind at ease. The connection between them remained, invisible but unbreakable.

A Call Across Time

At noon, Natacha was enjoying her plant-based meal — tofu salad with tempeh and multigrain rice — when her phone rang.
Patrick’s name flashed on the screen.

At her quiet penthouse table, Natacha shares a gentle smile with Patrick — a warm voice across the distance, echoing softly through London’s noon light.

“Natty, your morning text came when I was still working,” he teased. “It was midnight here!”
“Oops,” she laughed. “I guess I’m so dizzy with love I lost track of time.”
“Work’s fine. We’re tearing down old walls, reusing materials. Daisy and Venice are amazing as always. But you — stay safe out there. Don’t walk alone too late, promise?”
“I promise,” she said softly. “Your voice makes the cold feel warmer.”

After they hung up, Natacha sat quietly, the sound of Big Ben echoing through the city. Her heart beat in rhythm with the chimes.

An Unexpected Reunion

Later that day, Natacha strolled through a park near Westminster, taking photos of trees and children playing.
A message arrived from her older sister, Natalie:

“We’re in London for a few days before heading to Oxford to visit Mom and Dad! If you’re free, come see us!”

Her heart leapt with joy. They hadn’t seen each other for two years.
A small girl ran toward her with a balloon.

“Auntie Nat!” the child cried — it was little Catherine, Natalie’s daughter.

Tears filled Natacha’s eyes as she hugged her sister tight. Natalie and her husband Matthew were both designers — Natalie a bridal couturier, Matthew a furniture designer. They had lived in Italy and the U.S. before settling again in Europe.

That evening they shared a warm family dinner, video-calling their parents in Oxford and their grandmother in Chiang Mai.
The room was filled with laughter, Thai and English mingling in the air like music.

Echoes from Fujiyoshida

Meanwhile, back in Japan, Patrick, Venice, and Daisy were still at work on the hotel renovation.
When the meeting ended, Venice suggested a walk through town to clear their minds. They ended the night with dinner at Komorebi Café, their favorite vegan restaurant in Fujiyoshida — tofu steaks, miso soup, and sweet yuzu tea.

Patrick texted Natacha:

“We went to our old spot tonight. I played ‘Until I Found You’ before bed and thought of you.”
She replied with hearts and a short message:
“I miss you too. Sleep well and dream of warm sunlight over Fuji.”

In London, she was having dinner with her family at Mildreds Soho, a famous vegan restaurant, laughing and chatting with Catherine while sipping warm tea. Love, in different forms, surrounded them all.

The First Assignment

The next morning began with meetings and site plans. Natacha’s first task was to photograph architectural details around historic London — a reference project for the company’s design division.
She walked through old streets, bridges, and market lanes with her camera, letting her curiosity guide her.

In the afternoon, she rested at a tea house in Chinatown.

“Hi, Nat! How’s London?” Daisy called via video.
“Cold, but inspiring. So many beautiful facades,” Natacha laughed.
“Take pictures! We can use them for our next design.”
“Deal. Now go sleep — it’s late there,” Natacha teased.

That night she dined at Mildreds again, writing notes about the buildings she had shot. Each entry was careful, detailed, and full of emotion — like the way she loved Patrick.

A Call from Home

Sunday morning in Fujiyoshida, Patrick went jogging with Venice.
It was his father’s birthday, so he called home to Washington.
His father, a retired cardiologist, laughed as he heard his son’s voice.

Patrick makes a morning video call from his hotel room in Fujiyoshida, with Mount Fuji visible outside the window, talking to his smiling parents celebrating a birthday at home.

Patrick calls his parents from Japan to wish his father a happy birthday, sharing warmth and laughter across the miles.

“My boy, how’s that heart of yours now?”
“Healthy — thanks to you, Dad. No more inflammation.”
His mother, a Thai chef running a small restaurant in the U.S., joined in:
“Don’t forget to visit your grandma in Phuket next time! She still asks about you.”

Patrick smiled.

“I will. Love you both.”

After hanging up, he sat by the window and called Natacha. It was 8 a.m. in Japan, nearly 11 p.m. in London.

“How was your day, love?”
“Tiring but beautiful. London is a maze of stories. I wish you were here.”
“Then keep that kimono close. It’s my hug across the world.”

She held the white kimono tight against her chest and whispered,

“Good night, my love.”

The Photograph of Fate

The next day, Patrick found a Japanese umbrella he wanted to send her, but his friends stopped him — it was too soon.
Meanwhile, in rain-washed London, Natacha wandered into The Timekeeper Antiques, a shop that smelled of wood and dust.
She found an old photograph — two men and a woman smiling from another century.
At the bottom was a faded inscription:

Natascha stands outside a vintage shop named Timeless Antique, wearing a beige coat and looking through the window at an old black-and-white photograph framed in wood, captured naturally in soft London daylight.

Natascha pauses by the misted window of Timeless Antique Shop, her eyes drawn to a framed 1945 photograph glowing gently under the amber light inside.

“One Heart, Three Souls — My Best Friends. By Joseph, 25 Oct 1945.”

The owner explained it was shot with a Leica IIIc on Kodak Panatomic-X film, a portrait of students from UCL after World War II.
The faces strangely resembled Patrick, her father, and Daisy.

She bought the photo and sent it to Patrick and her father with a message:

Black-and-white framed portrait of three university friends — a doctor, an engineer, and a designer — captured in 1945 within a classic studio setting, representing timeless friendship and shared dreams.

“One Heart, Three Soul of My Best Friend” — By Joseph, October 25, 1945. A rare university magazine cover featuring three young visionaries whose friendship transcended time and distance.

“Look familiar? This feels like a memory from before we were born.”

That night, as she fell asleep, a soft light gleamed from the old frame — as if the past had begun to breathe again.

Natacha sleeps peacefully beside a glowing framed 1945 photograph on her bedside table, the vintage portrait radiating a soft golden light in the quiet night.

As Natacha drifts into dreams, the old portrait beside her glows faintly—its light whispering stories from another time.

“Some photographs don’t just capture time — they keep the heartbeat of those we love.”
